Create Persistent Collaboration Rooms To Chat & Videoconference with Ninchat

Create Persistent Collaboration Rooms To Chat & Videoconference with Ninchat | Online Collaboration Tools | Scoop.it

Robin Good's insight:

Ninchat is a web service which offers you the ability to create one or more persistent, online collaboration rooms, where you can text chat and videoconference with up to 12 people concurrently.

Collaborations rooms, or channels, created with Ninchat integrate text, video conferencing and file sharing via Dropbox. These rooms can be set to be "public" or "private" depending on your needs.

The chat history is "infinite" and fully searchable, allowing for effective  asynchronous exchanges, and messages can be exchanged also privately between individual users.

All Ninchat communications are SSL encrypted, there is an open API to extend and customize this service, and the service works across desktop computer and tablets/smartphones (Android only for now).

Basic plan free to use (2 rooms).

Higher pricing plans go from a "Small" 5-room option at $15/mo up to "large" for 30-rooms at $70/mo.

Dena Patrick|Wishadoo's comment, April 29, 2013 9:07 AM
I greatly appreciate these posts, Robin. I'm trying to find the best platform to have a series of online presentation/conversations and feel rather overwhelmed. I need the ability to present material, have live interaction in various forms (video, phone and text/chat), and record the sessions. Free or low cost, as well. I've assumed Google Hangouts would be the best choice but I greatly appreciate the other options you're presenting.

Group Video Chat, IM and Screen-Sharing of Movies and Applications with Rabbit

Robin Good's insight:

Rabbit is a new downloadable software app (for Mac only now) that allows you to instant message, video conference with multiple parties and to screencast and share in real-time any music, video clip or app.

"Today, a startup company called Rabbit is launching a closed beta of their "video chat and content sharing application".

But the best way to describe it is a cool and very modern implementation of instant messaging.

The most compelling feature of the app can be distilled down to this: group video conferencing with the ability to screencast music, movies and applications from your Mac.

This means you can watch a movie from a service such as Netflix with your friends in real time. Or you can crop and share a specific part of your web browser or any other Mac app and broadcast it to your friends.

The app is a native Mac client (other platforms to come later), and offers the ability to video chat with an unlimited number of people. People are grouped into Rooms and presented to you in priority based on your own friends, and within each room, individual groups can participate in their own conversations."

Instant Browser-Based Three-Party Video-Conferencing with GoToMeeting Free

Instant Browser-Based Three-Party Video-Conferencing with GoToMeeting Free | Online Collaboration Tools | Scoop.it
Robin Good's insight:

GoToMeeting Free is a new free web-based app (in the form of a Chrome extension for now) which allows you to run video-conferencing meetings for up to three people, without needing to download, install or register anything.

GoToMeeting Free takes advantage of the new WebRTC protocol which allows new browsers to connect directly to each other in a P2P fashion and to be able to carry out audio-video communications without the need for additional software or plugins.

The interface is minimal, offering only a few buttons to mute video or audio and to invite other persons in your video chat.

My comment: Straightforward, easy-to-use, free video-conferencing tool makes it very easy to video chat in small groups without problems.

Free to use.
