Instant Four-Way Free Videoconferencing Across All Devices with vLine

Instant Four-Way Free Videoconferencing Across All Devices with vLine | Online Collaboration Tools |
Robin Good's insight:

vLine is a new free videoconferencing app that allows you to easily video chat with one or more people with no downloads or plugins to install.

Use is very simple. As soon as you hit the vLine home page you are provided with a link to share with your contacts.Share the link, click GO, set a name for yourself and you are in. (Actually you need to wait at least for another person to join in, before you can see the conferencing room.)

Invisible UI. Only basic commands, to pause audio, video or the entire call, that show just-in-time, when you need them.

Extremely easy to use. Works out of the box. Offers a simple and immediate foolproof solution to instantly videoconference for anyone having a good ADSL /broadband line.

Best experience is with up to 4 simultaneous users.

Works only in latest versions of Chrome and Firefox.

Works great with Chrome on Android. iOS app coming.

No download, no registration, no login required.

Free to use.

Compare and Evaluate The Best Web Conferencing and Collaboration Tools

Compare and Evaluate The Best Web Conferencing and Collaboration Tools | Online Collaboration Tools |
Robin Good's insight:

If you need to review and compare alternative web conferencing and online collaboration tools you should give a look to Online Meeting Tools Review, a web service providing basic information for 35 different tools.

I have already recommended this service in May 2012, but the service has been significantly improved and updated.

For each service included you get a review, a direct link to its home page and free trial offering, and an overall rating score.

With the Basic Comparison Tool you can review up to four different conferencing services side-by-side for no additional fee:

With the Pro version of the same Comparison Tool you can get up to 12 different tools compared into a report that is sent straight to your email without any cost. The only requirement is that you accept the option of being later contacted by one of the companies you have requested to be compared.

Free to use.

Find and Share Contextual Info While You Videoconference with Mindmeld (iPad)

Robin Good: Mindmeld is an upcoming iPad app which allows you to conference in real-time with other people with video and audio, and to find relevant related information about the things that are being mentioned in your talk.

As you are video-conferencing you can tap a light bulb icon which powers a background search on the terms being mentioned in your conversation. By sliding the conferencing pane to the left, you can then reveal a information page that lists both the key terms being mentioned, as well as related information pins, on the very topics being identified.

You can also type in manually any term or topic you would like to see more info on, and immediately share any relevant info block with everyone else in the meeting.

"MindMeld is an iPad app (for now) that uses Facebook’s open graph and identity to help create quick audio or video conferences. Add a few people and start talking. But here is where things get interesting: As you speak (or other participants speak), the app listens and starts surfacing information pertaining to what you are talking about."

Co-Browse Any Web Page Instantly with Surfly

Robin Good's insight:

Surfly is a new web-based app which allows you co-browse any web page while being able to show and see each other live cursor in real-time.

You can invite multiple attendees, and each one of them can see your selected web pages no matter what kind of device or screen size they have. As you scroll the page, they see it scrolling too.

To start a session you simply share a URL with those who you want to invite. No software to download or install. No need to even to register or login.

My comment: The best, easiest and most convenient tool to co-browse and collaborate over any web page at a distance. It works instantly. Nothing to do make it work. Simplicity and immediacy win over features.

API available.

Free to use.

Dena Patrick|Wishadoo's comment, April 29, 2013 9:07 AM
I greatly appreciate these posts, Robin. I'm trying to find the best platform to have a series of online presentation/conversations and feel rather overwhelmed. I need the ability to present material, have live interaction in various forms (video, phone and text/chat), and record the sessions. Free or low cost, as well. I've assumed Google Hangouts would be the best choice but I greatly appreciate the other options you're presenting.
Robin Good's comment, April 29, 2013 9:59 AM

Free Videoconferencing, Collaborative Viewing and Screencasting with Rabbit

Robin Good's insight:

Rabbit is a (Mac-only) video-conferencing, collaboration and synch-viewing downloadable software which allows you to text chat, video-conference, view clips and images together with others and to screencast your own screen.

Rabbit is characterized by offering the opportunity to create private "meeting rooms" in which to invite and collaborate with others. Rooms are designed in beautiful, creative ways giving more space to the human aspect rather than to the technical one.

You can video chat with up to 10 guests simultaneously (plus you) and benefit from the innovative conferencing layout offered by Rabbit, where video feeds can be placed around a shared content or laid out in other alternative ways.

With Rabbit it is possible to real-time share any content from YouTube, Hulu, Spotify (audio sharing), Vimeo and more, as well as to screencast any open application you have on your computer.

Free to use.

Beyond Task Lists, Project Gantt Charts and Mindmaps: Organize Your Information Tasks with mySimpleSurface

Beyond Task Lists, Project Gantt Charts and Mindmaps: Organize Your Information Tasks with mySimpleSurface | Online Collaboration Tools |

Mysimplesurface is a new kind of visualization and information-organization tool that sits between a mindmap, a project management and a task-list tool.

From the site: "My simple surface is fast and designed to manage lots of things in a semi-structured environment."

"...My simple surface is like a big white board for quickly and easily organising lots of things. When there's too much going on, you need space. You need a surface to put things on. Move things around. Step back. Organise, and re-organise."

Sets of information nodes can be organized into "surfaces", which are logical group of items connected together.

"Capture points quickly onto a surface. Organise, and re-organise later.

Create as many surfaces as you need and link them together. Manage large projects with inter-related surfaces. Organise them in the way that makes sense to you."

Surfaces can be shared with selected team members by inviting them via email through the dedicated Share function.
