Just Posted: Hands-on with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM

Just Posted: Hands-on with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Our hands-on preview of the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Art lens. The announcement of the world's first constant F1.8 zoom caused a lot of discussion, much of it centered around the idea that the brighter aperture would help APS-C DSLRs to compete toe-to-toe with full frame cameras in many respects. We've had a chance to handle the lens and prepare a preview putting its capabilities in more context.

Pentax K-30 Hands-on Preview

Pentax K-30 Hands-on Preview | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Pentax has officially announced the K-30 weather-sealed mid-level DSLR. Samsung NX20: First Impressions: Digital Photography Review

Samsung NX20: First Impressions: Digital Photography Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Samsung has completely refreshed its NX series with a range of Wi-Fi-connected cameras, the NX20, NX210 and NX1000. The NX20 and NX210 replace the NX10 and NX200, while the NX1000 broadens the range with a less expensive, entry-level option. All three cameras are built around the company's 20MP sensor, can shoot at up to 8fps and capture Full HD 1080p24 movies. The NX20 features a high-res SVGA electronic viewfinder and swivel, 'Clear' AMOLED screen with no air gap between the display panel and the protective glass, for improved reflection resistance. The NX210 has the same (non-Clear) AMOLED screen as its predecessor, while the NX1000 has a VGA display.

All three cameras offer an interesting HD movie mode that shoots a super-wide 2.35:1 aspect ratio (the aspect ratio that many pre-1970 movies were projected in), by shooting Full HD cropped down to 1920 x 810 pixels. It shoots this Cinema movie mode at the equally cinematic 24fps."

HANDS ON: Canon EOS-1D X (sample images and video)

HANDS ON: Canon EOS-1D X (sample images and video) | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"At Photo Plus Expo in New York last week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Canon Advisor of Technical Information Chuck Westfall and a reporter from Rangefinder Magazine to discuss the Canon EOS-1D X.

I’ve suffered through the pains of the 1D Mark III, but I’ve enjoyed my 1D Mark IV despite its few warts. I’ve also had this strong desire to take a 1D Mark IV, 1Ds Mark III, 5D Mark II, and 7D and mix them all up to create the perfect camera. From what I’ve seen so far, it seems that is what Canon appears to have done and I couldn’t be happier. Everything I love about all of those cameras is present in the X (and much more), yet all of the frustrations and limitations of them appears to have been addressed...."

Canon EOS M hands-on preview - Digital Photography Review

Canon EOS M hands-on preview - Digital Photography Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Canon has, as expected, announced the EOS M - its first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Based around the same 18MP APS-C sensor as the recent EOS 650D/T4i, the EOS M is the first model to use a new, smaller 'EF-M' lens mount. It is launched alongside two EF-M lenses that use STM stepper motors optimized for use with the camera's hybrid AF system. As we've seen before in the mirrorless sector, the EOS M is predominantly aimed at the point-and-shoot upgrader market looking for DSLR quality and makes greater use of a 650D-style touch-screen interface. We've been using the EOS M for a little while and have prepared a preview, looking in more detail at Canon's first mirrorless EOS camera and how it handles.

And then, of course, there's the 24MP CMOS sensor, making it by far the highest pixel-count camera in its class. Hands On With The New Canon 24-70 & 24mm + 28mm IS Primes

Hands On With The New Canon 24-70 & 24mm + 28mm IS Primes | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Recently Canon announced the introduction of three new lenses to their EF lineup. The long awaited 24-70 f2.8 L II finally broke cover as well as two wide prime lenses with IS, the first of their kind. Much has been made about the projected $2300 price point for the new 24-70 though which is about $1200 more than you can currently get the previous version for. In the last couple of years Canon have updated some old lenses and introduced some new ones, all of which I have found to be exemplary so my gut feeling is that for pros, the price point will be justified. I was never that enamored with the wide open quality of the MKI version of this lens, it’s one of the few L series lenses that I have never owned so the prospect of a higher quality version is something I have looked forward to for some time."
