“All we know is that traditional rules of filmmaking no longer apply,” Danfung said. “We’re focused on the technical aspect to begin with as there are still big challenges in the capture, workflow, and playback … but I think the even bigger challenge is the new visual language that is going to emerge.”

Interesting points in this piece. The one thing that jumps off the page for me is how the female demographic is sometimes an after-thought and carry minor roles to the male-centric story headliner of fan culture stories. When is the last time you heard of Superwoman, Spiderwoman, Batwoman, X-Women?

Our brain is the original flight simulator. Nothing is as powerful as the human brains' ability to visualize and imagine and fill in the storyworld of what we hear. Years of storytellers have taken us on all kinds of journeys, from Lake Wobegon to War of the Worlds. Very smart to hear that BBC Radio thinks of listeners as 'viewers.'

My first game that I felt fit Jane McGonigal's description of 'epic' was TV Sports Football. I really did not love football at the time. The the TV style 'reeled' me in. Pun intended :)

why do people care this much about video games. they arent real ya know. this is stupid in my opinion. why do they even want to play these? this is not good for our brains. this is aweful for our health.

With crowdfunding sites, more and more users are becoming concerned about the shelf life of the finished product. Was the festival a means for you to capitalize on the built-in audience that each campaign cultivates? What would be its mission statement? Click the headline.

It's not just television, it's television made better.
Love #6. I'm good with "Samantha" taking the lead.

I talk about the shifting psychology in individuals and groups due to social technologies all the time, but here is evidence of one company who gets it that made me smile - Lego crowdsourcing designs. Who doesn't love Legos? From Mads Nipper, chief marketing office at Lego: “Both children and adults these days are used to being, and expect to be, more involved.”

Usually moviegoers are instructed to turn off their smartphones while watching a film, but with "App," the new Dutch thriller directed by Bobby Boermans, viewers are encouraged to keep their phones on in order to experience the second-screen content. As the first film made with the intentional inclusion of content on a second, mobile screen, "App" relies on an app, IRIS, which is equipped with sonic technology that triggers additional content during the movie. Though it's not required for viewing the movie, using the second screen adds layers to the big-screen narrative. The audience will be advised to leave their devices on their laps while watching the film. When there is additional content available on the second screen, their devices will vibrate. The way we watch TV is changing - we no longer gather in groups to watch our favorite shows, we watch by ourselves, and we do it in large chunks. TV has gone from being a bonding activity to a solitary indulgence, and the negative conotation that used to come withn that is going away. |
An interesting glimpse inside technology
