My EdTech502 course showed me the importance of coding and how fun it can actually be. This article gives 5 ways to get students excited about coding. Although Minecraft can be very engaging, there are many other opportunities out there.

I think this article has some good take aways. I do believe for primary school kids, the use of visual programming is not a problem. The lack of engagement comes from the task, not the environment. Well structured exercises involve plenty of problem solving that will keep kids motivated, without the worry of missing pesky semi-colons that occurs in general purpose languages like python and javascript.

The folks in Washington now have to clarify the tangled relationships and responsibilities between the parties involved in the experiment. There are at least four: the university, its accreditor, the alternative education provider, and a “quality assurance entity” (QAE) to monitor the program."
